- Cthulhus, The "Songs From the Slipstream 09-11"
From Juniper Tree Songs { JTS003 } { cassette } from Suave Citation "The feeling I get when listening to The Cthulhus cassette that Juniper Tree Songs released earlier this year is unlike anything I have felt in awhile. I feel totally insecure, freaked out, and pleased all at once. There is a charm to this band that is sort of incomprehensible and on their cassette “Songs From The Slipstream ’09-‘11” it is made clear that this band was absolutely one to be seen in their existence. This tape has a special quality that all good outsider artists are able to include in their records. This sort of meaningless nostalgia that puts the listener in a corner and begs them to remember, that which never happened, a made up memory that opens up an entirely new world.
Much like the work of HP Lovecraft the Cthulhus are really hard to digest at times. It’s taken me about 20 listens to get all the way through this tape without a break. My favorite track on here is “Glass” which starts out the B-side. It’s a pretty straightforward punk jammer with these weird whisper vocals and lots of weird guitar effects and at times vocal delay. The whispering literally almost seems to cut into you like Glass it is pretty intense. I am still really soaking this release in but there is something for everyone on here, weird noise slams, and casio drum beats layered with weird organ licks, and the occasional flanger heavy guitar. Truly an eight legged beast this one.
The tape is pro dubbed and is really nice and adds to the consistently quality output and lo-fi bedroom vibe of young Californian label Juniper Tree Songs. This tape is really good, really weird, and too me is the kind of thing that belongs on this format. I love it. It’s definitely making my best of 2012 list!"

- De Portables "Eat This Eighties "
From Almost Halloween Time { } { cassette } Extravagant, bizzarre, excessive, Doctor and the medics, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, Commodore 64, the fall of the wall, the Challenger disaster, the Chernobyl cloud, Salman Rushdie sentenced to death, Tienanmen square, the scream of Marco Tardelli and the 1982 World Cup. Even if you weren't born in the 80's you probably already know what I'm going to talk about. Today I'm going to announce the release of ''Eat This Eighties'' by de portables, a tribute to one of the most controversial problematic decades in music, characterized by the massive use and abuse of electronics and synths, simple refrains that will enter your ears and remain stuck in your head for days and days, but also by the post punk, rock and more obsure colourfully mind altering issues. de portables presents here a brief anthology of the those years, and they do it in their own style as always. Not simple cover songs that you will listen in the pub around the corner performed by a group of nostalgics, but their own interpretation of worldwide known classics and hidden gems that makes you wish you the 80's never come to an end. I've never been a huge fan of Pet Shop Boys, I kind of hated them, but here we have a wonderful rendition of ''Rent'' and you start thinking they weren't that bad and you wish de portables will cover more of their songs. How great would ''Domino Dancing'' or ''It's a Sin'' if our favourites would embrace the instruments again? And do you know Sinead O'Connor repertorie in depth? I honestly don't, but maybe I should explore her catalogue... de portables ''Troy'' is even more dramatic than Sinead ordination as a priest being a woman with a Roman Catholic background. This is a pleasant return, after the acclaimed '' It's Time To Leave This World Behind'' from 2012 (Almost Halloween Time Records) and it's follow up ''The Killing Horizon'' (9000 Records). This tribute comes out on cassette, a relic for many, but a format that has apparently won its battle against technology. Who buys compact discs anymore? Every single copy, this is an edition of 50, comes with a unique hand drawn sleeve. This is for all those of you that don't turn the radio station when you listen to The Cars or XTC, this is for you that turn the station when you listen to Erasure or Nena. The 80's like you have never heard.

- Diners "Always Room"
From Lost Sound Tapes { LST64 } { cassette } Diners, from Phoenix, Arizona, have created a vulnerable and beautiful album for daydreamers. "Always Room" is their debut full length album following their beloved "Throw Me A Ten" 7 song mini-album from 2012. Diners songwriter, Tyler Broderick, has created a length album that is perfectly Arizonan, even if direct lyrical references are not present. "Always Room" channels the similarly sunny vibes and disarming honesty of his former Phoenician contemporaries iji and French Quarter. Production-wise, the goal was to "make sure that every song had it's own mix and atmosphere, regardless of structure or instrumentation". This is achieve in a variety of ways throughout songs such as "Citrus", "Out Of The Blue", "My House / How Things Go", and "Overcasters" - all of which have distinct and separate moods. Diners "Always Room" will be released on cassette tape and LP in 2014.
Released on cassette May 16th, 2014 by Lost Sound Tapes of Cascadia. First edition of 100 cassette tapes in soft polybox cases, comes with digital download.

- Eye Seas "Fruit Fucking Salad"
From Juniper Tree Songs { JTS007 } { cassette } ”..A haunting a capella track that manages to totally captivate the listener with only the use of vocal looping. The stripped down, fragile recordings aren’t at all derivative, yet somehow remind one of a far less connected time…” -Ad Hoc

- Le Almeida "Pre Ambulatorio"
From Lost Sound Tapes { LST49 } { cassette } Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Guided By Voices. These are bands that Lê Almeida takes inspiration from. His band name may be the same as his own name but this isn't a stripped down solo project. Lê Almeida, from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, creates catchy, buzzsaw indie rock jams, tempered with laid back vocals all in Portugese.
In addition to being the chief songwriter for this group, Lê Almeida also runs the fantastic and important Transfusão Noise Records. He seems to have his hand in all the great indie rock albums coming out of Brazil, whether as a musician, producer, or graphic designer. Since 2007 the band Lê Almeida has released three EPs, three singles, one LP and a split single with fellow Brazilian band Top Surprise.
Pré Ambulatório is a 9 song EP with 2 bonus tracks on the cassette tape version. Highly recommended!

- Stars Are Insane "When Last We Met"
From Almost Halloween Time { AHT042 } { cassette } { out of stock } Four songs inspired by a trip that I took along the west coast in the winter of 2014. "When Last We Met" continues to build upon the sonic territories that the Stars Are Insane discography has embarked on in recent releases such as the Singles Club cassette and the split with Monogamy. Beautiful hand painted covers by Luigi at Almost Halloween Time.
- Thunder Bunny/Devin Dart "See It In Color"

- White Blush "White Blush"
From Rok Lok Records { RL83 } { cassette } The sounds that Carol Rhyu creates with her project White Blush puts me into a state of borderline hypnosis every time I listen to it. And that is not to say it is boring or sleep inducing-in fact quite the opposite as every time I listen to it a new nuance is revealed to my ears. The balance of pop mastery and creating layers of intoxicating sounds is something that White Blush excels at. Mixing together the lush sounds of dream pop/shoegaze and synth driven New Wave with layers of electronic derived ambiance, White Blush, sounds like a meshing of such artists as I Break Horses, Stereolab, M83 and certainly a touch of The Cure and Depeche Mode. The warmth of ambient synth vibes, and slightly distorted bass under tones, propelling drum machine driven beats are all anchored by Rhyu's voice. This five song cassette will certainly leave you wanting more from White Blush. An edition of 100 pro duped/imprinted cassettes with full color j-cards.

- World's Fair "We Can't Be Magic"
From Reflective Tapes { REF107 } { cassette } Even though it has been four years since the release of their debut album "Leisurely", Long Island indie rockers World's Fair have been diligently tinkering away, crafting new sounds all while balancing the responsibilities, and other interests of life. In the time allotted for the band to come together to create the last few years they have put together a collection of ten songs for their sophomore album, "We Can't Be Magic". Continuing to build upon the hook laden, guitar driven indie rock that was captured on their debut, "We Can't Be Magic" adds to its sonic repertoire as the album's songs shift from experimenting more with layered pop structures, a stronger focus on vocal arrangements to slower tempos and even "quieter" moments while coming back to its trademark swirling, distorted guitar sounds that is anchored by precise bass rumbles and dynamic yet purposeful drumming. World's Fair creates sounds that are reminiscent of bands such as Archers of Loaf, Built to Spill, Swirlies, Yuck, Sebadoh and on this album showing some post hardcore influences such as Hum and Lync. "We Can't Be Magic" cassette version is on orange cassettes and is packaged in a full color j-card
